Avanti Galoppi Bios
Herb Robertson (trumpet and more) combines a thorough command of traditional and extended techniques with a prodigious imagination and an original voice. He has been a key figure in the bands of Tim Berne and Mark Helias and has several CDs as a bandleader. As a sideman, he's played with Anthony Davis, Bobby Previte, David Sanborn, George Gruntz, Bill Frisell, and Paul Motian, to name a few.
Rob Brown (alto saxophone, flute) studied saxophone under Joe Lovano and Lee Konitz. He is a member of William Parker's Quartet Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra and In Order to Survive. He has performed and recorded with Cecil Taylor, Rashied Ali and Matthew Shipp.
Bassist Ken Filiano spans a wide spectrum of musical expression. Embracing classical, jazz, the world of spontaneous improvisation and inter-disciplinary performances. He has performed with Warne Marsh, Vinny Golia, , John Carter, Bobby Bradford, Roswell Rudd, Ted Dunbar and ROVA Saxophone Quartet among others.
Lou Grassi is internationally known for his work in both the traditional and the avant-garde jazz worlds. From the 1970's to the present, Lou has performed and/or recorded with a great variety of outstanding artists, including Marshall Allen, Borah Bergman, Rob Brown, Charles Gayle, Urbie Green, Gunter Hampel, Johnny Hartman, Sheila Jordan, William Parker, Perry Robinson, Roswell Rudd, John Tchicai and many others. Lou is the leader of the Lou Grassi PoBand which has released five CDs and received critical acclaim worldwide.
